(Received November 28, at 10.15 a.m.) The Federal Government recently o-b}cd the Imperial Government with reference to the statement that the naval base was k bo removed to Auckland. The following reply lias been received from the Secretary of State for the, Colonies: ' The statement presumably refers to the fact that when tho Australian fleet unit is complete in 1912 the Government of tho Commonwealth will take over the dock at Sydney, and bo responsible for all work, in connection with tho unit, while, wine of tho smaller vessels of the China unit \wl! have New Zealand wateis for their headquarters. As far up is known, Auckland has not been specially mentioned as the base for the vessels which will bo kept Ml New Zealand waters."
