LODGE MEETINGS
The Rescue Lodge of Good Templars held a most successful social evening in their lodge room at Kensington, when the Chief Templar (Bro. A. U. Jackson) presided. Among those, present were fi.C.T. Bro. D. C. Cameron. G.S.O.W. Sis. Cameron, G Chaplain Sis. F. Thorn, P.D.D.G.C.T. Bro. D. (lain. Dis. .Secretary Bio. W. A. lies, the Rev. 11. Fairmaid, Bro. ami Sis. Johnson (late of Glasgow), and a number of well-known Templars of Dunedin and surrounding dis trictsj Bros. Cameron an<l Gain and the P.ev. R. F.iinnai 1 delivered addresses, as did also the chairman. A capital programme was supplied. Refreshments weio handed round by a committee of brothers and sisters. A vote of thanks to the performers and visitors was responded to by G.C.T. Bro. Cameron and a number of representatives from various lodges. The weekly meeting of Alliance Lodge, J.0.G.T., was field in the Friendly Societies' Hall, South Dunedin, and presided over by C.T. Bro. Childs. Grand Special Deputy Bro. S. W. Andrews (Star of the Fast Lodge, Ashburton) delivered an address, recounting his travels in the Commonwealth, whither he was summoned to take part in the No-license struggle in Mew South Wales. He visited lodges in all parts of the States, and found many true lemperanco workers in the lodges, and he was commissioned to convey fraternal greetings from each lodge to the Order in the Dominion. The C.T. thanked Bro. Andrews for his address, and reciprocated the sentiments conveyed. He also thanked Bro. Paterson (Wellington) for greetings conveyed in a letter from Bro. Price on behalf of the District Grand Lodge, Wellington. A most enjoyable programme was contributed. Votes <>f thanks were accorded to th"o visitors, and lesponcled to by representatives of all the City lodges. A special meeting of tho Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge, M.U., was held in tho lodge room, Stuart street, N.G. Bro. W. C. Washer presiding over a largo attendance of members. The following brothers responded on behalf of the visitors: Bro. M'Connell (Loyal Centenary), Bro. Knipe (Loyal Albion), and P.fi. Bro. Treirern (Loyal Dunedin). P.G.M. M'Dougall ind D.P.G.M. Bro. La-wry responded on Dehalf of the District. The lodge closed ivith the usual formalities. 'The Hope of Dunedin Lodge of Good Templars held a temperance banquet on ."'riday evening in their lodge room, Zealandia Chambers, Dowling street, which ivas in every way a success. The Chief Templar (Bro. M'Keown) presided, and bad with him on tho platform Bro. Cameron, G.C.T., Bro. Gain, P.D.C.T., and the L.l). (Bro. Sandilands). The Chairman briefly explained tho objects of the Order and his pleasure at meeting them as C.T. of the Hop© of Dunedin Lodge. Sis. Pierce opened with a selection on the piano. Miss Reid sang, and then Bro. Whale proposed tho prosperity of tho lodge, to which the L.Q. responded. Miss Johnston sang, and after Master Vivian had recited, Bro. Porter sang, and the Vivian family (four) gave two items, which were liighly enjoyed. Bro. Gain projxjsed the Grand and District Lodges. He said that as tfie Dunedin District had always been loyal to the Grand Lodge, he hoped the delegates who were to assemble at Faster in Dunedin would receive a royal welcome. Bro. Cameron, G.C.T., in reply, gave an interesting speech, which was well received. The tea and cake service was then announced, and the programme was lesumed by Sis. B. South giving a monologue. Mms Johnston and Miss Reid contributed vocal solos, and Miss Ivy Cran gave three of her prize recitations. Bro. M'Pherson, L.D. (Alliance), proposed a vote of thanks to the performers and the misters who had attended to the catering.
