ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
A middle-aged man named Alexander Parron had his left eye injured through the premaiuro explosion of gelignite at Bcnhar on Saturday afternoon. He was tamping when the accident occurred. The injured man was brought to Dunedin Hospital, where he now lies. It is not likely that he will lose the eye. A little girl named Alice Stewart fell down while playing with other children on tho North Orou nd yesterday, and broke ono of her arms. Sho was taken to the hospital At the Ohristchurch races on Saturday Murtagh (the rider of Xavier in the Spring Hurdles) was injured through bis horse falling. Ho received concussion of the brain, but is not considered to bo in a dangerous condition. Constable M'Cormack died at Palmerston North from injuries received through falling backwards off a footpath. His skull was fractured. He had been flirty years in the force, and was a Maori War veteran.
John Colgrovo Hayes, thirty-four years of age, was badly injured at Shannon (Wellington) through failing from a, horse. His recovery is doubtful. Henry ltadford was unharnessing a young "horse, at M'Cormick's stables at Napier, when the- animal lashed out ami kicked him in the stomach. He is in a very critical condition.
