Yesterday afternoon, at the confectionery and biscuit works of Messrs P... Hudson and Co., .Miss M. Campion was presented, on the occasion, of her approaching marriage, with an afternoon tea set and eider down quill, by her fellow-employees. Mr (I. Price made the presentation, and referred to the many good qualifies of the recipient, and wished her every happiness. Mr J. Jones responded on behalf of Miss Ca.'npion. The linn also ]3resentcd her with a silver tea service.

After a fortnight meningitis supervened, and ho sajik rapidly, dying last night at his residence- in Koslyn. Mr Stark was the second son of tho'late MiDavid Stark, one of tho ' Star' compositors. The elder son, Allan Stark, died when a lad. Everybody knew Robert, and liked him von' much. He served his apprciitiYiiship to the bookselling trade at Tirr.arn. His wife is left with fivo young children. Tho ex-.Sultan Abdul Hamid is seriouslv ill. [To only likes liquid nourishment. He i:-. almost entirely deaf, and moves with difficulty. ilr George G. Xctrnan, of this City, lias been successful in passing the practical test examination in accountancy held in Dunedin last mouth, and has been duly admitted to membership of the New Zealand Socioty of Accountants. Mr Anderson made the presentation. Tho death is announced of Mr W. Peterson, who was for marry years schoolmaster ,:t Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island, and retired from that position some three years ago. Mr Peterson also acted as postmaster for some years. He was eeventy-one years of ago.
