At the Supremo Court to-day the Chief .Justice referred to the allegations of cruelty made by Oltif Aanonscn, a Norwegian sailor on the German b:irr|iio M.nrtl:a Boeksalin, in Now Zealajid waters. Annensen stated -that ho was hung; up by tho heels and illtreated in various ways, and that ho preferred gaol to going back. On tho charge of escaping; from custody while detained on ,i charge of desertion he was imprisoned for five weeks until tho ship loft. Inquiry has been made through the German Consul, and tho polico evidence emphatically contradicts tho assertions, and adds that Aancnsen was under the influence of liquor. Sir 11. Stout said he was glad to have these statements. His experience) of Germans was that they woro, not cruel. Had there been any trouble ho knew that tho German authorities would have remedied it.
