Mr Alfred G. Marshall, M.A., at present assistant to the professor of mathematics at Canterbury College, has been selected as tho Auckland candidate for the llhodes scholarship. Sir John Logan Campbell, of Auckland, entered upon his ninety-fointh year yesterday. He received many callers at his office in "Shortland street.
The Otago Land Boaid passed a rcfioluiion expressing regret at- the death of Mr John Tough, of Milton, a former member, and conveying sympathy to his relatives. Mr Louis Blitz, the well-known _ 'cellist, arrived in Dunedin yesterday to join the Norman Concert Company. He left the Williamson Grand Opera Company in Brisbane last Friday, ami has made a long and rapid journey to be here in time to t-ake part, in to-night's entertainment at tho G-arrison Hail.
The new Viceroy, Lord Hardinge of Penshurst, has embirked for India. Mrs AV. A. il.ooro has been elected to the- vacancy on the Council of the Eugenics Society caused bv the death of Br Blomlield. '
Mr J. J. Curtis, a well-known Wellington, resident, is dead, says a I'.A. telegram.
