(Received November 5, at 9.44 a.m.) The bye-election for Walthamstow, rendered necessary by.the sitting member, Mr J. A. Simon, K.C., accepting office as Solicitor-General, which had been eagerly watched owing to the Labor party having declared against the Government because of their attitude on the Osborne judgment, resulted as follows: J. A. Simon (L.) 16,670 J. Stanley Johnson (C.) 15,907 Majority 2,766 In January the figures wore: Simon 17,726 Johnson 15,551 Majority 2,195 [Tho advice of the Labor officials not to support the Government candidate possibly accounts for tho decline in Sir J. A. Simon’s total vote.] THE VETO CONFERENCE. LONDON, November 2. A meeting of tho Constitutional Conference was held yesterday.
