WELLINGTON, November 3. Mason’s gardens and buildings were destroyed by tire at Tai ta last night. They were insured by tho owner (Mr 11. Keene) for £I,OOO in tho Stole Office. Ho estimates his toss at £I,OOO more. AUCKLAND, November 3. Mr Justice Edwards to-day sentenced Sydney Herbert Gordon Doyle, a youth of nineteen years, to seventeen years’ imprisonment on charges of breaking and entering and nine charges of theft, and declared him an habitual criminal. John Ingram, charged wiih breaking and entering at Dargaville, having previous convictions at Auckland, Hamilton, and Tim.mi, was sentenced to twelve months, Henry George Stone, charged with tho same offence, but who had a good character, except that ho is a deserter from tho Nava-, was admitted to probation for twelve months. NEW PLYMOUTH, November 3. The local Employers’ Association passed a resolution trusting that a Bill would be passed at an early date making the Saturday half-holiday compulsory and universal.
