COMPLAINT AGAINST N.Z.R.U

NOT FOSTERING COUNTRY UNIONS.

[lkr '(J Mm: Prkss Association.]

PALM HUSTON NORTH, July 11. Speaking at a luncheon tendered on Saturday to the Hoiowhenua representatives, Mr E. 1). Holx'n. president of the Manawatu Union, regretted that the New Zealand Union had departed from their earliest policy of fostering the country Unum, wliich had dotws so much for Nev/ Zealand foot kill. There was littk use now in nominating country players for tepresentative. matches, as they were unknown aud uneou.-ddeicd, though often better than <=ome of the men taken to Australia for the last tour. The metropolitan unions, especially the Wellington Union, were ceasing to make fixtures with country unions, and the only remedy would bs for the country unions to combine. Taranaki was really a combination of country unions. The Auckland Union always fostered lootball in their province, but Wellington did not. The Wellington team should, he rimed, be .selected from the province, and Wellington should regularly play the minor ui'iond in that province. By combining such unions as Manawatu. tlorowhernia. Bush, and Rangitikei could be-at Wellington, ami that was the only wav to secure consideration aud respect. Neither the New Zealand Union nor Wellington had shown them any consideration in regard to matches or selection this year. Mr Fowler, of the Horowhenua Union, strongly endorsed Mr Hoben's remarks.
