J. M'CONNELL'S DEATH.
The -coroner's inquiry into fhe death, of! James M'Connell was resumed by Mr 1 Bartholomew this, afternoon, Mr R- Howwell being foreman of the jury. Mr Irwin, appeared for tho relatives, and Mr Darkf Wallace represented the Railway Depart* ro.eni.
Dr Roberts deposed as to the resulte of his post-mortem examination. He found a fracture of three ribs on the right ade. The pointed end of one fragment projected: into the chest cavity, wounding the lung and causing an escape of air into the chest cavity, the lung collapsing in consequence. The right chest -was also half Ml of bloocL Witness considered the cause of death was shock. It iras possible that the prassura within the thorax embarrassed the hearfe, action, and added to the dangers of the* shock. Something had impinged againstj the chest wall, and driven the fractured: ends in.
At Mr Irwin's suggestion; His WradrifH adjourned for a few minutes, so as to lei: the jury see the locality of the aeddaafc. On resuming Wm. The comer of a track caught him. Tho trucks seemed to'be moving then, bat very slowly.. Deceased was knocked down.
