Believing German aviation was at stake, a contestant named Lindpainter contributed to Delaroche’s fall by flying too closely above him. An indignant Rheims crowd cried “Lynch him!” Though 'Delaroche’s am, leg, and pelvis are fractured, he regained sufficient consciousness to demand that steps be taken against the alleged contributor to his accident.
