LETTERS CONDENSED

D. Smyth writes that his letter yesterday was only intended to express his own views, the matter not having been officially considered by the Umpires’ Association. “Up to this year the gentlemen who have acted in matches have always applied to the O.C.A. direct, but this season, owing to some reason, the allowance duo to the umpires who acted in tho Otago-Southland match was forwarded to the secretary of tho Umpires' Association, and when the matter was considered by the Committee of the Umpires’ Association it was decided in future that the umpires should inform their secretary of tho amount that was due to them, and" ho would then apply to the O.C.A. for same, which was done in this case.”
