YESTERDAY’S POLLING. APATHETIcIiLEOTORS. As we surmised, apathy was shown by .the district electors in connection with yesterday’s contests for seats on the new Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, only aomo 12 per cent, of those enrolled recording their votes.. THE CITY, When the result for the combined district of the City of Dunedin and the Borough of West Harbor Was announced at tho Town Hall at nine o’clock less than twenty people were present, and the candidates in attendance contented themselves with returning thanks for the support accorded them. For the combined district of Waikouaiti and Waihemo Counties and the Boroughs of Palmerston, Waikouaiti, and Port Chalmers, Mr Robert Templeton was elected. U 189 23 228 Philip, D. 31. ... 55 4 37 94 Clark, George 8 0 17 25 AT OTHER CENTRES. —Success of Lady Candidates.— Auckland.—Successful candidates: P. J. Nerheny, P. M. Mackay, J. S. Dickson, and F. J. H. Ellesden. The voting was small, the highest candidate receiving only 1,030 votes out of a total of over 19,000 electors on the roll. Wellington.—For the election of fourteen representatives for the combined Wellington district on the new Hospital and Charitable Aid Board there were twenty-three candidates. Tho following were the successful candidates:—J. G. W. Aitken, I, ; Rev. Van Stavern, 1,617; Miss Richmond. 1,547; R. C. Kirk. 1,486: J. Smith. 1,484; Rev. W. A. Evans, 1,331; J. Robertson. 1,323; J. Godber, 1,321; J. J. Devine, 1,289; D. M’Laren. M.P., 1,262; J. Trevor, 1,227; A. H. Hindmarsh, 1,157; G. London, 1,093; J. E. Fitzgerald, 1,079. Nelson.—Messrs Field and Lock and Mesdaines Fell and Watson were elected to represent the contributing districts of Nelson and Richmond. Very littlo interest was taken in the election, between 600 and 700 only out of 3,671 voting. Christchurch.—Tho election of seven members to represent the City of Christchurch on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board resulted in the return of five cut of the seven people’s progressive ticket, including three ladies. 'The following were elected:—Mrs Gunnington. 1,191; C. Allison, 1,158; Mrs Wilson, 991; Mrs Ensor, 913; W. W. Tanner, 885; Rev. W. J. L. Gloss, 793; T. Gapes, 715. Messrs Allison and Gapes were previously on the Board. It is estimated that out of a total of 17,000 on the roll, only 1,400 voted. The Socialist candidate received tho fewest votes, and was last on the poll. Invercargill.—A. F. Hawke 422, Jas. Ward 416, Robert Galbraith 258 (elected). Our Arrowfown correspondent wires that Mr G. D. Baird was elected representative for Lake County on the Southland Charitable Aid Board. The voting was: Baird 520, Birley 156.
