A MILLIONAIRE'S SONS

Memories of a famous will aie awakened by the proving in England of tho testament of the late Mr (leorge Mortimer Pullman, who died on October 19, 1897, leaving a fortune of £3,600,000. Mr Pullman was the inventor of the luxurious railway car named after him, and founder of the town of Pullman, Illinois, where tho huge works at which these vehicles are. built are situated. As was stated at the time of his death, thirteen yurs ago, ho almost entirely disinherited his two sons, Ueorge .Mortimer and Walter .Sanger Pullman, on grounds which he slated in his will as follows ; Inasmuch its neither of my sons hits developed such a seme of resi*m.si'oility «is, in my judgment, is requisite for tho use of largo properties and considerable sums of money, I am painfully compelled, as I have explicitly stilted to them, to limit my testamentary provisions for their benefit to trusts! producing only such income as I deem reasonable for their support. He therefore left upon trust for each of his sons fieorge .Mortimer Pullman and Walter Sanger Pullman only such a sum as should produce an annual income of 3,000d0l (£600), with the reversion of the capital to their children. Of his huge fortune, .Mr Pullman left about £330,000 for charitable and public purposes, A sum of £2*IO,QCO was bequeathed for a Pullman Free School of Manual Training at Pullman, and £2,000 each to thirteen institutions at Chicago. Other legacies included £200,000 to each of his daughters, Florence Lowtlen and Harriet Cardlow, and their respective issue; £260,000 to his wife; and £IO.OOO each to his two brothers and two .sisters. Subject to other bequests, he left the residue of hi.s property to his two daughters. The reason for the, delay in proving tho will in Great Britain is not stated.
