[Peu United Press Association.]
AUCKLAND. Oetolxu-12. the Anglican Synod discussed at length ■■■■■ _ recommendation authorising the Committee to teccive guarantees or arran™ a bank overdraft to provide a dcficioucT of £7OO to nuance the general mission to New Zealand in 1910.
Mr YV. J. Speight slaxmglv opposed the proposal, and caused some excitement by statins; that the- impression was abroad that tho mission of help to South Africa had forwarded eeclcsiasticism, not Christian godliness. The appeal for funds had not been freely responded to, because in the hearts of tho people there was a suspicion as to iho real aims of the mission. The Rev. Mr Colville, a member of the mission of help to South Africa, assured the Synod that tho mission did not o-o there to spread any kind of sacerdotalism or ritualism.
Eventually the Committee withdrew the request for permission to raise tho deficiency by a bank overdraft, and with this amendment the recommendations were adopted.
