MOVING PICTURE SHOWS

Jack Binns. the wireless telegraph; operator, sought injunction restraining the American ing Picture Trust, < which has shows throughout America, from ; using his name and alleged portrait in , that moving drama of toe tea entitled ’ “ Peerless Jack Bums, toe wireless hero' of the White Star’s Republic, an unrivalled pictured representation of toe world’s greatest marine disaster.” Mr 15 inns did not take this perfoeznaztee as a compliment, and he resented the use of his name, but Mr Justice Brady has now refused the injunction, on toe ground that the “demand for films of pictures Of cur- -f rent events abates very soon after the 1 event, and there is now very little demand for films containing the plaintiff’s alleged . .portrait and his name.” The motion was . denied, without costs. This is ‘encouraging to the Moving Pictures Trust, because other distinguished people are also seeking injunctions. Miss Maud Adams, America’s foremost actress, presumably; has a strong grievance, because one show 1 hero purports to depict her in ‘ Joan of; Arc,’ and portrays her as a big-boned, angular, masculine sort of person, whose' performance is a travesty of the magnificent role as played by Miss Adams. The 1 affidavit in support of the injunction says : “ It is grossly derogatory to the dignity, l fame, beauty, and professional attainment of Miss Adams,” a complete caricature, in fact, of the recent performance of 1 Joan of Arc ’ by Miss Adams in the Harvard Stadium, as described at tbs time in tho ‘Daily Telegraph.’ Mr* Charles Frohman has taken legal steps to protect Miss Adams, and has succeeded already in securing the obliteration of the name of his leading star from the playbills' of tho moving picture shows.-— 1 Telegraph ’ Now York correspondent. j
