September 14, at 8.20 a.m.) Hie Daily Mails’ New York correspondent reports that British importers are suffering from the ruthless acts of American Custom-house appraisers since the Tariff Act came into force. Values on invoices arc often arbitrarily increased 40 per cent., and the importer's only remedy is the lavcourts. A BOARD OP AUTHORITY. YEW YORK, September 15. 1 rofessor Emery (of 1 ale University), Mr Renolds (Assistant Secretary of the Treasury), and Mr Sanders (Chicago, editor of the ‘Breeders’ Gazette’) compose the Board of Authorities ■ under the Tariff Law to assist President Taft in regard to the application of the maximum and' minimum clauses of the Tariff.
