Commander Peary advises that he went ten miles beyond his camp at the Pole and eight miles to the right of it, taking photographs, depositing records, and studying the horizon with the telescope for possible land. He also informs the United States Department that he took possession of the entire region on behalf of the President of the United States. NO BOTTOM? REACHED. LONDON, September 13. Peary says that five miles from the Pole his soundings showed 1,500 fathoms, but he found no bottom.
