THE CANADIAN HARVEST,

Crop reports from all sections of the West continue to indicate that we are in for a hamper yield. The weather conditions leave nothing to be desired. Harvesting will be general by August 24. The most- serious problem in the farmers’ outlook is the scarcity of farm labor. There are vacancies at the present moment for at least 5,000 men at wages rising from 40 dollars (£8 4s 4d) to 45 dollars (£9 4s 10s) per month, with board and lodgings. It is estimated that at least 32,000 men axe required to handle the harvest. Many will com© from Eastern Canada, of course, but there never was a much better opening than-now for the immigrant. There is also a very keen and general demand for domestic servants, the wages offered being as high as 20 dollars (£4 2s 2d) per month, with board and lodging.—Winnipeg correspondent ‘ Standard of Empire.’
