MELBOURNE, September 13. (Received September 13, at 9.50 a.m.)
Muir, a railway ganger at -Horsham, performed a deed of heroism while in charge of a ballast train. As his train was going round a curve he saw a little child standing on the lino on which another (rain, travelling at the rate of twenty miles an hour, was approaching. When the engine of the advancing train was within fifty yards of the child Muir jumped from his own train and managed to pick up the child, and reach safety before the passenger train passed over the spot.
