GLADSTONE CHURCH.
The opening ceremony in connection with Gladstone Presbyterian Church, some particulars of which were given in yesterday’s ‘Star,’ was held last night. The Rev. L K. M'lntyro presided, among the others present being the Moderator of Dunedin Presbytery (Rev. W. M’Donald), tho Mayor of North-east Valley (Mr J. Campbell), Rev. 11, B. Gray (North-east Valley), and Rev. R. R. M. Sutherland (Kaikorai). The Chairman, in the course of his remarks, traced the history of the work of the Presbyterian Church in the district, mentioning those who had been prominent helpers, to whom he was deeply grateful. Concluding, he said: “Wo want to moke a now beginning. To help the children, and those that are no longer children; and to further the cause of Christ. And 1 believe that the cause of Christ is a very wide cause; it has to do with every sphere of our life and work; it is not any narrow little cause that may bo put aside with safety; so that when 1 say I hope tho cause of Christ is furthered hero I say a great deal. It includes the very highest interests of tho people, young and old—the very highest interests both in temporal things and in spiritual things.—(Hear, hear.) The Rev. W. M'Donaid congratulated tho congregation on possessing so suitable a church. Ecclesiastical history showed that the power of taking tho initiative was a concomitant of Christian progress, and perhaps the present-day Church was lacking in initiative to free the world from sin. Mr J. Campbell, the Rev. R. R. M, Sutherland, and the Rev. H. B. Gray also spoke.
