Y.M.C.A.

Mi- J. Virgo, the national secretary of the \nung Men's Christian Associations of Australia and New Zealand, will pay a short visit to Dunedin during next week. Mr Virgo nas been visiting the northern centres in the interests of Y.M.C.A. work. He evil! arrive in Dunedin on Wednesday evening. A full programme of meetings has been arranged under the auspices of the local Association. On Thursday morning a civic reception will be tendered Mr Virgo by the Mayor and the dtv councillors In the evening, in the Art GaJlew Hall, a public welcome will be held. The president of thfe Association (Mr 0. M, Thomson) will preside, and Mr Virgo and the Rev. James Artken (of Mosgiel) will be the speakers. An attractive programme, of musical and vocal items has been arranged by Mr James Coombs, A meeting of the ministers and Christian workers wifi bo held at tho rooms of the Association, under the joint auspices of the Council of Churches and the Y.M.C.A.. at which the Rev. Canon Curzon-Siggers will preside. The Rev. D. Borne (piesi dent of the Council of Churches) will speak, and Mr Virgo will deliver an address on ‘ The Relation of the Association to the Churches.’ The same evening a large meeting for men will bo hold in the Trinity Church Hall, at. which Mr 0. M. Thomson, M.P., will preside. Mr Virgo will speak, and a musical programme will bo carried out. Mr Virgo bas extensive experience in the work of tho Young Men's Christian Association. He was for thirteen yeans the general secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in Adelaide, and a large and vigorous work was built'up. For the, past eight years Mr Virgo has occupied a similar position in the Sydncv A.M.C.A. In the latter centre a* new building was recently opened, which is without doubt the best equipped building for Y.M.C.A. purposes in Australia ami the Dominion. He is a lucid and forceful speaker, and the meetings in Dunedin will be productive of much good.
