[Published by Arrangement.]
Climbing the stains in this well-known establishment, the first thing that impresses one is the long vista and splendid accommodation effected by (he latest improvements. Turning a little to the right, one looks through a quaint archway down the length of the wide, spacious department devoted to ladies’ underclothing. Hero arc arranged twenty or thirty large mirrors, which servo to throw into relief the magnificent assortment, of lingerie and dainty wear for women and children. The largo glass showcases and glass-topped counters, too, are. valuable additions to this, as well as to the whole of the new departments. Leaving here and turning to the rh’ht, one enters what used to be the old rooms, now turned into a veritable fairy’s bower, the whole largo show room garlanded with wreaths and festoons of beautiful flowers, and draped and hung with the newest ribbons in soft pastel shades. The color scheme of the walls is soft, and in harmonious keeping. The large mantle department is splendidly equipped with four huge wardrobes. 24ft long, 12ft, and two ot 9ft. with alternating mirror doors, which slide hack and forwards easily and noiselessly on their ball hearings.' The dressmaking rooms, which used to he at the head of the stairs, have been moved to the first floor, Rattray street, and are fitted with the latest improvements for heating and lighting. Nothing tending to the coirTfort of patrons has been forgotten. The ground floor, formerly taken up as a. Juvnfture show room, has been renovated and fitted with glass counters and massive showcases, and here is set out an extensive and handsome assortment of china and glass wire. Fhe whole of the now premises arc luted throughout with the Humphrey lights, which illuminate the place with a clear, soft light. The floor is entirely covered with a handsome Axminster carpet. woven in one piece to order, a soft green in color, toning in with the walls admirably, in which the D.I.C- monogram, entwined with fern leaves, is the outstanding design. The D.1.C., as it now stands, is one of the most up-to-date and hestcqtiipped general import-ins: companies in mtr City.
