OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board commenced to-dry ; present—the Hon. T. Fergus (chairman!, the Rev. P. R. Eraser, * Messrs J. Mitchell, A. M'Kerrow, D. IJorrio. W. Snow, and G. C. Israel. —Works Committee.— The Works Committee recommended that the following tenders for supplies be accepted : —Painting material, A. M'Skimming ind Son : limber from the yard in DunNlin, M'Calhim and Co. : timber from the mill in large quantities, Watson and Harrington.

Lander.— The Kdncation Department asked tho opinion of the Board on the matter of the Omakau children being conveyed by train to Lauder. Th'.- Chairman said that the whole particulars were previously before the Board. The Omakau children'took advantage of the railway to go to Lauder, and th.it, kept the Lauder school open. The total attendance there was 18. The Blacks Committee, wishing to increase the attendance at their school, wanted the Omakau children. The parents of the Omakau children said *• .W—that it was better for the children and sale,- in wet weather that they should 'o;,ti:;iie to go to Lauder. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Mitchell --"That, the .Minister be informed that the Board have already had the mailer under consideration, and are salisliid that the existing arrangement is the best ,n the interests of the children (oncerned. The Hoard regret that the Minister should have been misled by misstatements made by a correspondent'whose identity cannot be disclosed, and whose letter the Minister holds to be private, and not a- public document that can be' furnished to I his Hoard."
