Mr Arthur Barnett reached Dunedin last night after a hurried business trip of four and a-half months to the Old Country. Most of the lime at Home was spent in London. Mr Barnett returned to the Dominion by the Athenic, “Our Own’’ wires from Invercargill:— The death occurred at the Southland Hospital yesterday of Mr W. B. Joss, late second officer of the Hineraoa, aged thirtyaine years. The deceased was a native of Stewart Island, and very popular at the Bluff, He had been third officer ’u the lnvemon, which used to trade between New Zealand and Manila, and was on her when she had on one occasion to put into the Bluff with a strained propeller. The cause >f death was cancer. The death occurred at Auckland on Sunday of the Hon. Henry D-e Bohun Devwr’aux. second son of the late fifteenth Vis■onnt Hereford, at his residence Epsom, at the age of sixty years. Deceased was until lately connected with the Customs Department. One of his sons was killed in the Boer War. The Governor left Auckland vpsterduv for ellmgton. His' Kxceilency will return to Auckland or: the 27th inst. Prince Von Bulow was accorded a hearty public send-off when he left Berlin for tis country seat.

Haskins, who was manager for Fullers in Dunedin for a considerable time, passed through here to-day on his way South as manager of West's Pictures. The Hon. Dr Findaly reached Dunedin By the first express to-dav. He goes on to Invercargill on Thursday. Lord Set borne, High Commissioner for South Africa, has been made a Knight of tne Garter, vice the late Alarquis of Ripon.
