HAWKE'S BAY AUTUMN MEETING. ( The above meeting was concluded yesterday. The sum of £19,693 was put through the totaiisator for the two days—£l,sß3 more than last year. Fifteen bookmakers were ’ licensed at a fee of £2O ,10s. In' the closing events yesterday the Juvenile Handicap, sf, for two-year-olds, was won by Mr Ormond’s Day beam (Birken-. head—Eos), with Golden Water second and Te Puia third. Bollin (7.12) won the Farewell Handicap, 7f, with Chanteuse (7.8) second and Sunbonnct (7.11) third. Master Douglas (11.10) was first in the Manga,tarata Hurdles, l|m, Gold Dust (10.8) second, and Waipu (10.11) third. Tina Toa (7.11) won the Scurry Hack, sf. BLENHEIM RACES. Bad weather spoiled the racing yesterday. The totaiisator investments for the two days amounted to £8,720, as against £9,267 last year. A AIARATHON RACE. [Special to the Star.] INYERCARG ILL, Alay 7. I raining operations amongst harriers and others for a Alarathon Race in July have already commenced, and a good deal of interest is being manifested. The race .will he from Riverton to Invercargill, a distance of twenty-six miles, over :i good and fairly level road, (steal harriers are at present doing about twelve miles across country, and by gradually increasing the distance to twenty-six miles they hope to have themselves in first-class trim for the race. It is expected that there, will he about twenty-live und a? the contest will 1)0 purely amateur, the prizes will consist of Tnedals. ST. ANDREAY HARRIERS. The above club ran from Frederick streeton Wednesday afternoon as guests of. thei-vice-president (Mr R- H. Scott), tidrty-two members taking part in an enjoyable afternoon’s outing. Messrs Scott and Aleredith, who were iu'clnuge of the paper, laid their trail along the Kaikorai tram line, down into the valley, then up the Brockviile road and around tho outskirts of Kaikorai until the hills overlooking the Cattle-yards were reached. On (ire homeward journey lho trail led tip to tho AVindie Settlement, from which place a fast run home was made. After dressing the members .sitdown to a repast. During the evening songs and recitations were given bv various members and friends present. Before dispersing cheers were given for the host- and hostess.
