In connection with the graft prosecutions at Ramsey, a former bank president, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment and a fine of l.OOOdol on a charge of bribery; Klein, a municipal councillor, to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of l,(K10dol; two former councillors to eighteen months’ imprisonment and fines of 500dol; and three citizens to two years’ imprisonment ;ind fines of SOOdol. [According to the evidence the votes of councillors were purchasable in sums ranging from Sdol (£1) to lOOdol (£2O). Witnesses testified that eighty-eight councillors took bribes from u the Big Six ” for passing ordinances; that for passing one ordinance sixty of them received 45,000d0l (£9,000), and that there were only six members of the Council who could not be bought.]
