LAKE WAKATIPU STEAMERS.
TO THE EDITOH. Sir,—Some years ago, when the above service was run by a private company a how] was raised that the boats were unsafe, and the Government threatened that unless the company put on a more up-to-date boat they would be compelled to run in opposition. After being pestered for nronths, the company sold out to the Government. The same old tubs still run and unless the Government keep their promise a big accident will occur. Perhaps when the Government have done squandering money on bathhouses, etc. in the Aorth Island (that don’t pay 1 ’per cent, on the outlay), also buying Dreadnoughts for the British Government, they wdl turn their attention to this matter.— I am, etc..
