MEETINGS AND SOCIALS.

WATERSIDE WORKERS. The Dunedin Waterside Workers had a pleasant evening on Wednesday at the “ Carlton,'’ the occasion being a send-off to Air George Alackay, who, with Airs Alackay, is about to make’a trip home to Scotland. During the evening the chairman (Air Valentine) presented him with a travelling bag, and also a travelling run for Airs Alackay, from the Dunedin side Workers. A number of toasts were honored. Songs were rendered by Messrs Tyrrell. Greaves, Valentine, APLean, Grounds, Sellars, Jack, Bandeen. H. Sincock, French, Gilbert, Dodds, Donaldson, and Dwight. CHURCH SOCIAL. A social gathering was held in Wesley Church Schoolroom, Cargill road, last evening for the purpose ot making presentations to Mr and Mrs A. Allen, who are leaving the district to take up their residence in Western Australia. The Rev. W. Grigg presided, and alter referring the good work done for the church and Sunday school by Mr and Airs Allen, and wishing them every happiness in their new sphere of labor, handed to Air Allen a travelling bag, and to Airs Alien a dressing case. Bertie Allen also received a book from the Sunday school. Air J. B. Shacklock, (on behalf of the congregation) and Air W. H. Johnston (for the Sundayschool) also spoke a few words. Later in the evening another presentation was made, when the chairman, on behalf of the trustees. presented Miss E. Rainsford with a lady’s companion, and thanked her for acting as organist for some months. Air W. A. Rainsford responded on behalf of his sister. A musical programme was provided, the following taking part Aliases Bryant, Farrant, and Passmore. Messrs Harman, Firkin, and Rainsford. The newly-appointed organist, Mr C. E. Cole, and Miss Peterson played the accompaniments.
