"HANDS ACROSS THE SEA."
FUNCTION AT HIGH STREET SCHOOL. In. common with the'majority of the schools throughout Otago, it has been decided by the authorities at the High Street School to try to inculcate a spirit of love for the Mother- Country by the exchange of a flag with a school in the Home Land. Some difficulty, however, has been found in discovering a,school with a similar name, and the task of finding a suitable school to .exchange flags with has been left in the hands of Mr Mark Cohen, who has gone Home as one of New Zealand's representatives at the forthcoming Press Conference. Mr Cohen will be given charge of the local flag, and will present it, to the school selected. It is intended that the children of the two schools shall afterwards keep in touch with each other by means of the exchange of letters, pictorial post cards, and photos. The ceremony of saluting the Hag to be sent Home was performed this afternoon. The school children and the cadets were drawn up in the school ground, and after the flag had been hoisted and saluted they were addressed by Mr J. H. Walker on the subject of " Patriotism."
During the afternoon the children sang ' The Cadet's Marching Song' and ' God Save the King.'
