Ritchie briefly addressed the ratepayers present, promising to conserve their interests if elected. Cr Ashton, on behalf of the elected representatives for Park Ward, expressed thanks for the ratepayers' confidence and support. NORTH-EAST VALLEY. Much interest is being shown in regard to municipal affairs in the Valley just now, and the thirty ratepayers who" were present to-day when Mr Theodore Arnold town clerk, read the list of nominations received for the Council, had no reason to complain as regards the number of candidates ready to serve the borough. Except in the case of Sunnyside Ward, the nominations received for" the Roslvn Borough Council were equal to the number of vacancies. All last year's councilloi's, with two exceptions, have been nominated for re-election to the Green Island Borough Council. Lastyear four councillors were elected from both the North and South Wards, and two from the East and West Wards, but this year three have been chosen from each of the four wards. Nominations began to come in yesterday, and the lastwas received only a few" minutes before noon to-day, at which hour Mr T. Grey has been elected unopposed. Invercargill.—Messrs W. B. Scandrett (present mayor) and C. S. Longuet (a former mayor) were nominated. Both favor borough amalgamation and the municipal ownership of tramways.
