SCHOOL COMMITTEES REPORTS.

MACANDREW ROAD. The following is the report of the outgoing Committee : At the last annual meeting", of householders the following gentlemen were nominated as member’s of committee :—Messrs A. T. Smith, S. Smith, H. M. Henderson, A. Dray, J. D. Cameron, J. L. Thompson, R. Gillespie, D. Smyth, S. Bore ham, and G. C. Baker. Previously to a ballot being taken, however, Mr D. Smyth retired from the contest, which left just the required number (nine) of names remaining on nomination, renderin’' a ballot unnecessary-, and the remaining nine became .accordingly your Committee, Messrs A. T. Smith, S." Smith, and G. C. Baker bemg re-elected chairman, treasurer and secretary respectively. During the latter portion of the term the Committee lest •= the services of Messrs A. T. Smith and S. Smith, ostensibly through their being about or having left the school district. On the resignation of the chairman being received Mr S. Boreham was elected to the vacancy, and continued to act as chairman for the remainder of the term.

Seventeen meetings were held during the. year, Mr Boreham attending 15, Mr Henderson 15, Mr Gillespie 14, Mr Thompson 12, and Messrs Cameron, A. T. Smith, and S. Smith 10 each. The secretary attended all meetings, with one exception. Under the able management of Mr G. W. C. (Macdonald, who succeeded the late (Mr Wm. (Bennett as head master, the school has fully kept up its average, both in attendance and results, the hand master s report for last month, on a roll of 420, giving an average attendance for the quarter of 395, or 25 more than the corresponding quarter of last year. Mr Smeaton is, we are pleased to say, still with ns as first assistant. Miss Forsyth still remains as matron. In Mr Cushen we are fortunate in securing a- teacher for the fourth standard of undoubted "ability : Miss Faulks, (Miss Walker, and Miss Campbell retain their former positions, the latter, we are sorry to say, being at present absent through illness, her place being ably filled meanwhile by Miss Noale. Mr Menzies still remains as pupil teacher’ Miss Matters being probationer, so that the staff individually and collectively is very efficient indeed, and will • still bmore efficient _ when we are allowed the I'li 1 f x^Ta af6l 'stants to which we are entitled under the new scale of staffing schools, shortly, we hope, .coming into opera Lion.

Members of Committee have in turn during the year visited the school, and the reports made by them on the methods teac! iing and the conduct, and discipln® the classes are vcrv satisfactory. ine chief prize, consisting of a gold medal presented by the chairman (Mr S. Bore iron) to the dux of school, was' awaiuc-d to Miss Isabella Watkins. Mr Drays presentation of a medal to the mos. popular girl m the school (decided by the voting of the school children themselves) also fell to Miss .Watkins, Mr -U. Henderson presented two special pnzes for composition to be competed for b\ both girls and boys, which were won b> Miss .Man- Brown and Master Charles Matthews respectively. Ihe Committee, at the suggestion of the late chairman Mr A. T. Smite, have been m correspondence with Aberdeen the mrtbplace of the late Mr James Macan drew, Superintendent of the IteovincL of Otago with the object of an exchange of hags between this school and the public school in Aberdeen attended by Mr Macandrerv, a favorable replv being received rom Mr John M-Kenzic/head master 5 the Ashley Road Public School, Aberdeen hope to see the incoming Committee carry the exchange into effect.
