Only the Clutha dredges are getting any returns. Those from the Punt and Riley’s Revival were small. The Alpine No. 2 is opening out a paddock. So far she has been on shallow ground, but good returns are expected when she strikes deeper ground. The sensation of the week was the splendid return of 102oz,from Shine No. 1. The good returns this dredge has been getting so regularly enhances the value of the Rising Sun claim, as the rich lead Shine No. 1 is working runs straight into the Sun’s lower boundary, where the latter company have many years’ work before them whenever their dredge is brought down to work it. The Rising Sun’s return, though good, was not quite up to her usual average. The dredge-master is still dredging a wav the point to allow the full current of the river to flow into the cut he left, to sweep awav the overburden of loam. The late rains have considerably freshened up the water supply on the” Nevis, and the el dicers are hard at it finishing their paddock before severe frosts set in. The prospects of the New Luggate Hydraulic Company continue to improve.
