The New Zealand representative ladies’ lawn tennis team,, consisting of Alisses L. Povrdrell (Taranaki), K. AI. Nnnneley E. Travers, A. Ward (Wellington), R, ’AI Wellwood (Hawke’s Bay), and A. Gray (Auckland), left Wellington bv the Biverma yesterday for Sydney to take part in the interstate tournament at Sydney. Boniform, winner of the Great Autumn, ran his last race on Tuesday, for it is the intention of his owners (the* iJessrs Stead) to retire him to the stud with an unbeaten record. Boniform made his first appearance in public at Randwick as a two-vear-old, when he won the A.J.C. Breeders’ Blate from Alountain King and Alaltine. Returning to New Zealand he was spelled till _ the following spring, when he was again taken to the other side, but went wrong, and was not raced there. In December he journey to Auckland, and accounted for the Great Northern Derby. He was purchased by his present owners at the Yaidhurst dispersal sale in August last, and following on a season at the stud was put into Gaining again at the begining of this year. His record therefore . reads i Three starts, three wins—as a two three, and four-year-old—and all in important events. HOCKEY. The Dunedin Hockey Association have secured the use of Forburv Park for this . season For some time past the attractive game threatened to fall into neglect owiiw ■to the lack of grounds. Some enthusiasts” however, including Air Jarman, secretary of .the Association, never slackened in effort to gam the necessary grounds in orderthat the game might be developed, .they have been successful, and it now rests with the players to get their shins m order, for the season. Practice matches will take place next Saturday, when a good muster of players is looked for. The game is worth fostering.
