CHARGES AGAINST THE--.GOVERN-MENIC [Pee Uktted Press Assocumosg AUCKLAND, 3fcrdi' t6. Mr Massey intimated to a ‘Herald representative that he would accept Sir Joseph Ward’s challenge to prove Ins (Mr Massey’s) recent cliargcs against- the Government methods. The charges principally referred to are-; 1, That suggestions had'been made at the elections to the effect that certain districts would be more likely to be benefited by public expenditure” if those districts were represented by Government supporters rather than Oppositionists. 2. That systematic attempts were made at the elections by members of the parly of which Sir Joseph Ward is the leader to libel and misrepresent Opposition candidates and Opposition members of the last and preceding Parliaments.
