THE MINING TROUBLE

A SETTLEMENT POSSIBLE. [Per United Press Association.] REEFTON, December 30. The miners’ dispute has entered a new phase, and a settlement is Imped to be arrived at by the accident insurance companies giving lower rates. Several companies, including the Government, absolutely refuse to take a policy without medical examination. As the position is becoming critical, Iho workers are very indignant at the Government Department refusing to take the risk imposed by the Government themselves and throwing the whole risk on the shoulders of the employers. The effect if" the men are refused work on the ground of non-produc-tion of medical certificates will be disastrous. The smaller companies are at a standstill, and cannot take the risk.
