CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S ANNUAL SPORTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l was rather amused at "In-" terested's " letter in to-night's ' Star' hold-r----ing forth re the alleged injustice done L.» M'Lachlan through not being allowed to' compete at the above sports. Most of it is nonsense. As to how the " gate" at the coming sports will be affected, I can safelv say that his absence will not make any difference;, at least, there will not be less people, and the mere fact that M'Lachlan has not competed half a dozen times at the local society's gatherings for the past twenty years—practically covering M'Lachlan's history on the "track—during which period the Caledonian So-' ciety have made most of the money, shows that his presence (or absence) has had no
material effect one'way or, other.?<X venturefftp , say; also, that were a-competitor-in' the" championship's) especially, T thf half and quarter, the'fields would not: be so large as they public love to see an 6vehly contested'foce, and were M'Lachlan in the races specialised, much of the interest" in the events 'would be lost/ Arttf'afteY'all/are we," the public, not worth considering as well as the competitors.—l am,- etc., , , j ' . • «" Observes.
