WEST HARBOR COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the West Harbor Borough Council was held at Rothesay last evening : present—The Mayor (Mr H. E. Moller), and Crs Smith, Ross, Jack, Duncan, Whyte, Crosland, Forgie, and Blackie. —Correspondence.— Wm. Bagley wrote with reference to his claim to a position of the roadline at St. Leonards. He held a title to the land u and urged the Council to meet him fairly in the matter, otherwise he would take steps to secure his rights.—Referred to the Works Committee to report to next meeting. Hislop and Lang, on behalf of Mr W. A. Montgomery, who claims part of the roadline, wrote the Council to define the road.—Referred to Works Committee for report.
P. Pilkington wrote complaining that rubbish was being dumped into one of his sections at Burkes. He asked that the Council prevent the practice referred to being continued.—To be informed that the Council had not authorised the deposit of rubbish on his land. Chas. Stewart wrote offering to lease ground at Sawyers Bay, held under lease by the Council.—Grazing rights to be submitted to tender for the remainder of Council’s lease.
The Town Clerk, Dunedin, wrote stating that the Finance Committee of the City Council accepted the offer of the West Harbor Borough Council to deposit £6OO at per cent, at call, or 4 per cent, for six months.—The action of the mayor in matter was approved. H. S. Thomson wrote complaining that George street, Burkcstown, was in a bad state, and asking that work commenced be completed.—To be informed that the Council, at present, have no funds available for such a purpose. W. G. Barker wrote asking that the scrub be cleared from roadline near his property in Ravensbourne Extension to allow vehicles access to his house.—Referred to Loans Committee for report. —Reports.— The Finance Committee reported that £192 12s 7d had been paid into the bank since last meeting, and recommended that accounts totalling £sl 0s 7d be passed for payment. —Adopted. The balance-sheet for the previous financial year was examined and adopted. The inspector’s report described the work done during the month, pointing out that on the Main and Boundary roads miles of water-tables required attention. —Adopted. The ranger’s report named three owners of straying cattle for prosecution, and stated that the district had been patrolled in the early morning at intervals during the month.—Adopted. The Works Committee’s report showed that some water-tables in Rothesay and Ravensbourne needed attention, and that grass required to be removed from the channels in some places.—Adopted, —Personal.— Cr Crosland said a report had been circulated that he was endeavoring to have the town clerk and senior surfaceman removed from the employ of the Council. As the report was untrue and calculated to do him injury, he wished to put himself right with the Council and the :ratepayers. -r--
