MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
AGAINST THE GOVERNAIENT. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 3. The Conservatives and Unionists secured great victories at the municipal elections 111 the English and Welsh boroughs. Thev non seven seats- at Liverpool and Manchester, five at Nottingham, Carlisle, and Blackburn, and four at Wigan, Leeds, and Huddersfield, chiefly at the expense of the Liberals. Up' to the present the ConservativcAloderates have gained 127 seats, tho Libe-ral-Progressives 32, Labor 11, the Socialists 12, and the Independents 14. Liberal gains were made at Huddersfield, Plymouth, Keighley, Macclesfield, and Accrington. The women’s candidates met with minor Hiccese. (Received November 4, jit 8.40 a.m.) Further returns show Conservative gains in many largo towns. Devonport and Crewe each gave a majority of 6, Sheffield of 4, and Huddersfield of 1. The Progressives ousted the Aloderatcs at Last Ham, and the Socialists lost five coats at Crewe.
