TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD.

APPEALS AGAINST EATING. Mr WkLdoweon presided at the Assessment Court at Mosgiel to-day to - consider 240 appeals against the classification of lands for rating purposes in connection with the Taieri Drainage Board. The land was classified into fofir classes, each class being determined according to the benefits likely to be derived from the construction of drainage works. Several counsel fqr th© appellants contended that the classification was premature, because the—Board had -not propounded a. definite scheme of. drainage of the Plain. It was impossible: for their clients to know how much or little benefit they would receive from future drainage works. The Magistrate generally agreed with the contentions of th 6 Board’s counsel that the classification was in accordance with the Act. The appeals of the Sil verst ream subdivision ratepayers were considered.
