NEWYORK, November 2.(Received November 3, at 8.47 a.m.) Queen Margherita of Italy has withdrawn: all opposition to the marriage of the Duke of Abruzzi (cousin of the King of Italy) 1 with, Miss G. A. Elkins, daughter of Senator Elkins., , Miss Elkins will receive a dowry of £200,000. ’ Queen Margherita chiefly opposed the match on the ground that public opinion in’ America had 1 , insinuate’d that her nephew’s bid for the hand of Hub Elkins was dictated by greed for her dollars. [The question of the marriage of the Duke of the_ Abruzzi with Miss Elkins has been engaging public notice-throughout Italy. .. The clerical daily ‘L’Umone’ learns tlmt the Count of Turin has Just, returned/ from a special mission on bis brother’s behalf to Gressohey, where he endeavored to persuade the DowagerQufien Margherita to give her consent. Queen Margherita replied that her main objection was founded upon a very painstaking investigation of the sentiments prevalent in Italian society,, and among Italians in the United States, which where not openly hostile were unmistakably unentbusiastic. On examination of the leading. organs of educated public opinionthroughout America,- Her Majesty had, she said,, been grieved to note that these almost unanimously insinuated that her nephew’s bid for the hand of the daughter of Senator Elkins was dictated by a greed for dollars. In all . probability the marriage Avill take place ,in January.)
