LETTERS CONDENSED.

A Socialist" thinks it is thc duty of members of all Churches calling themselves Christian to vote for No-license. A large proportion of those who seldom or never go to church strike out the top line, and if these people feel it their duty to vote in this direction, surely it is also th» duty of those who profess" to be followers of the Christ to do so. Ministers have no right to take drink, for how can they administer a rebuke to an erring brother if they take it thmeselves, even in moderation? Among the Churches the gieatest sinners on this question are the Anglicans and Roman Catholics. The first take up a neutral attitude, and the second are opposed to No-license. "Continued" thinks it would be a mistake for the Drainage Board to do the foreshore contract by day labor, as many hands will apply for work who would not b.f employed by contractors. At least 55 per rant, of those who were on day-labor wage in Mr Noble Anderson's time were never good enough to work for a contractor, and in this way day labor means a serious loss to the ratepayers.
