ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
James Weir, who committed suicide at Limvood on Sunday .night, was" twentyfive years of age, and was an assisted immigrant, having landed in the Dominion during last December. He had been suffering from consumption. The magistrate returned a. verdict that Weir ha<l committed suicide by cutting liis throat with a Tazor, but that there was no reason to account for the act. Lachlan M'Donald, aged seventy-five years, an old age pensioner, .who lived by himself at Glenore, was killed on the railway line on Saturday morning by the train from Milton to Lawrence. Apparently it was the deceased's custom to search along the lino and pick up coal which had fallen from the engine, and he was thus engaged on Saturday when met by the train. The latter was" going at a food speed when the accident occurred, he engine-driver did not see deceased (who was deaf) until almost on top of him, and although the brakes were instantly applied the train was not pulled up quickly enough to avert the accident. Deceased was thrown clear, and killed by ths injuries sustained to his chest, ribs, and legs. An inquest was held yesterday, and a verdict, of accidental death was returned.
The police were notified last night that William Russell, four weeks old, had died suddenly at Ratanui. As no doctor had been attending the infant, an inquest will probably be held. The 'Cluthai Leader' states that the young man, J. Cooper, who met with the cycling accident about three weeks ago on the Stirling road, died yesterday at Stirling from the injuries he received. Deceased was only lately married, and much sympathy "is felt for his young wife. Cooper was a very respectable fellow, and much liked. The accident occurred as follows:—Cooper was cycling past the "Hermitage," when his handle-bars broke, .and he, came a nasty spill on the metal -road, being rendered unconscious. . At. the inquest oh the infant Douglas Lines, who, was killed at Wai-n)i,. kelson, yesterday, a verdict was returned that death resulted from a kick by a horse, no blame being attachable to an^->
