Benevolent Trustees informing tie Council that tlie animal meeting of representatives of local authorities would be held on Monday, 7th. Graham, on behalf of the United f Districts of Central Otago and Tuapeka and Otago Charitable Aidßoards, announcing that the date of the election •wts November 25, and informing the Council that it was entitled to two votes. “Fh® mayor and Or Botting were .appointed to represent the-Council. From the Secretary of the Otago District Hospital Board, announcing 2Sth of November as the date of election, and informing the Council that they were entitled- to two votes.—The mavor and & Botting appointed. From the residents of Douglas terrace, asking the Council to reform that portion of the street between the front of Mr Dudfield’s and the bend next to Morton township, which was in a very bad state of repair, and almost impassable for wheel traffic.—Referred to inspector to report to next meeting. From the Town Clerk, Dunedin, in regard to the letter from the Council on 2nd ult. re footpath from Northern Cemetery to Opoho, and offering to pay half-cost up to £s.—The offer was accepted. From the North-east Valley Ratepayers and Householders’ Association, drawing the Council's attention to the state of Marion street, which had house and garden refuse deposited upon it, which was detrimental to the health of residents in the locality ; and they also requested that another police man be obtained, as it was impossible for the present policeman to do duty both by night and by day.—The mayor and town clerk were appointed to wait on the inspector of police re the matter of extra policeman, and the other request was referred to the tpwn clerk to report to the next meeting of the General Committee.

From toe Secretory of the Dunedin Hosjntol Trustees, informing the Council that toe annual meeting of representatives would take place on December 7, and asking that a delegate should he appointed.—The mayor was appointed. . six residents, drawing the attention of the Council to the necessity of a concrete channel along Queensbury lane and offering to pay half-cost.—The town clerk to write and inform them that as soon as £ls was deposited the work would be proceeded with. It was also agreed that the work, should be oontijiued from Queeasbuay lane to Main road if the residents there paid half-cost. —Reports.—

The Finance Committee reported that the district fund amounted to £1,744 10s Id, arid toe drainage rate trust to £35 Is 3d. They also called attention to to© fact that the electric light installation was about to be proceeded with, and that the first payment on account of same would be due m three months after completion. This would amount to £239 9s, after which regular monthly payments for illumination would bo required to be provided for. Thejf also reported that they had been advised that the Council were not liable for toe claim made by Hunter and Etheridge, and recommended that Mr Hay’s account for preparing water plans should stand over. Accounts amounting to £l9B IQs 9d had been passed for payment.—The report was adopted. The General Committee reported, re the mghtsodl depot, that they had referred the suggestions from the contractor to a subcommittee for consideration. They also reported that there were several cases of scarlet fever in toe district.—The report was adopted. The Committee also recommended the construction of a concrete channel »u the east side of the Lower Main road, and that a resolution should be passed imposing half-cost of such work on owners of houses and lands facing the same, and also recommended that toe Drainage Board’s . attention should bo called to the necessity of-piping the watercouirso leading from M&ybank to the public school.—The first recommendation was referred to the' General Committee to report, and the mayor and Messrs Campbell, Harvey, and Mowat were appointed delegates to wait on the Drainage Board re the piping and drainage generally. The Works Committee reported ‘that the engineer had employed extra, labor to enable works undertaken to be overcome; that the formation work in Chester street and the metalling of Douglas tea-race had been completed; aaid that the engineer had been .'nstruoted to reduce the level of the footpath at the entrance to the property of Mr J. Rhodes to correspond with the other portions of the same footpath. They also recommended that the engineer bo requested to furnish the Council with art estimate of the probable cost of forming and metalling a roadway 16ft wide, without regard to the permanent levels on Franklin street, Gladstone, from Pine Hill road to Fortuna street.—Report adopted. —General— It was resolved that Mr Hay, the engineer for the water supply, be written to asking for an answer to the Council’s letter of 20th August last. A deputation waited on the Council asking that the public meeting to be hold in the hall on the 29th should bs postponed, as They had token the hall for that evening.—The Council resolved that thev were unable to postpone the meeting, but expressed their willingness to pay the cost of rcadvertising the entertainment, if hold in another hall.
