RACECOURSE TRESPASSERS, HASTINGS, June 19. Two unlicensed bookmakers (J. Loner gan and William Scanlon) were to-daj each fined £5 and costs (£1 7s) for refusing to leave the Hastings racecourse wher requested. Mr M'Carlby, S.M., said that ks had imprisoned others for a similar offenco without the option" of a fine, and would do so ajain. Lonercran contended that hs was not plying his calling, and would appeal. The Magktrate said he would have to provide security amounting to £ls in the event of his doing so. Counsel for the club pointed out that licenses cost £2O, and a fine of £5 left 5 profit to th« bookmaker.
