Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. THE AFGHANS’ INVASION. DRIVEN OVER THE FRONTIER. CALCUTTA, May 5. It is stated in Government circles that the Afghan invaders consist of undisciplined bands, and that there is no reason to suppose that they are acting with the Ameer’s concurrence. The Zakka Khel express themselves as being reassured, since Great Britain does not intend to annex portion of their territory ; hence they will loyally abide bv the agreement with Great Britain. Major-general Willcocks yesterday attacked the remnant of the Afghans on the hills westward of Landikotal. The enemy was of poor strength, and offered only a slight resistance. The leading mullah fled on horseback early, and the whole of the enemy were driven over the frontier. BRITISH CASUALTIES. CALCUTTA, May 5. (Received May 6, at 8.15 a.m.) During yesterday’s fighting Lieutenant Campbell, of the Fortieth Pathans, received a gunshot wound in the thigh' and a private of the Royal Munster Fusiliers and a sepoy of the Khaibar Rifles were also wounded. The Sufi Gahib is near the Thatsoti Pass with a small following. BUSY SOWING GRAIN. OFFERS OP HELP. LONDON, May 5Reuter reports that a majority of the Zakka Khel are sowing maize at Maidan, while those in the Bazar Valley threaten to oppose the Sufi’s advance. The Mohmands are harvesting. Several Indian maharajahs have offered for Imperial service, and to supply troops to assist the Government. THE BRITISH STRENGTH. LONDON, May 5. (Received May 6, at 8.59 a.m.) General Willcocks controls 25,000 British and native troops on the frontier.
