River height this morning, 10ft; weather mild. The Mount Lyell Company have consigned 605 tons of blister copper for the current half-year. The Alexandra Lead dredge-master reports a slight improvement in the ground. He expects the hard gravel to give out very soon, when improved returns may be looked for. He will then be able to put more stuff through. The ground is rising in front, and the bottom is expected to do likewise, when better returns are sure to be won. Under date May t, the Masterton dredge-master writes that the -dredge had a good run again for the full length of the cut as usual. Everything is running well, and tnere is very little change in the ground. The Sailor’s Bend dredge-master expects to start dredging about the first week in June. The New Big River mine manager reports that the April battery run was 7690z 7dwt of retorted gold, valued at £3,000. from 520 tons. The concentrates and tailings have not yet been treated.
