Tho South Island championship- poultry 6lvow opened here to-day. Its characicr may i*>est he desctibed in. the word* of Mr Maude, the well-kuown Sydney judge. Tho Orpington Club's trophies, were won 'as follows :—Best Black Orpington (most •points in Ixifl cockerels and pullets, and best black cockerel or pullet bred in New Zealand), i r . Stewart, Invercargill; best buff. Rev. A. Mitchell, Invercargill. The championship's were distributed as follows:—Game, J- L. Printz (Orepuki), gaine bantam, James. Symmington (Gainafu); Hamburg, D. Hampton (Sydenham); Leghorn cocii. H. Hearfiekl (Addington); hen, L. F. Hickman (Balcairn); Houdans, T. Breeze (Ashburton) ; .Plymouth Rocks, A M. Irving (Woodlands); Wyandotte pullet, R. O. King (Stirling); golden cock, A- W. V. Clark (Christchurch); white hen, H. C. Peters (Invercargill); Orpington black hen, Mrs C. Simmonds (Dallington); buff hen, Rev. A. Mitchell (Invercargill); Langshans, Gill Bros. (Oamaru and Invercargill); dragon pigeon, D. Crag (Chrstehureh); show homer, J. W. Green (Christoburch); magpie, Hay and Proctor (Invercargill). Visiting dogs won. as follows::—lrish setter, Jas. Thomson (Timaru) v ; :collies, J. R. Hayne (Dunedin); cocker spaniel, Conn and Harland (Dunedin); Irish terrier, W. J. Harper (Auckland) ; fox-terriers, J. W. Thomson (Dunedin) and J. R. Dickerson (Dunedin). The judging is as. yet incomplete.
