INVEBCABGILL, June 26.
Mr M*Cajrthy, S.M., was occupied all day in hearing cases connected with charges of sly grog-eelKng. Frank Coutts was charged with selling whisky at Waikiwi without being licensed to do so. Since the information was sworn the defendant had been twice convicted, and the police therefore asked that the charge be amended so as to disclose an indictable offence. The defendant then pleaded " Not guilty," and elected to be tried by a jury. He wa» committed for trial. The same defendant and Martin Campbell were charged with attempting by threats to dissuade a. person from giving evidence in a criminal matter—viz., the recent sly grog charges against them. They were committed for trial.
