Replying to Lord Jersey in tho House of Lords, Lord Fitzmaarice (Under-Secre-tary for Foreign Affairs) stated that the Government had repeatedly called tie attention of Germany to the claims of Burns, Phflp, and Co., of Sydney, in connection with the treatment accorded their vessels at the Marshall Islands, but hod hitherto been una hie to obtain a definite reply as to questions of compensation. The German Government stated that in January they had began a detailed examination of the claim, which would take a considerable time. Since then the Foreign Office had twice reminded the German Government of the claim. He therefore trusted that Germany would endeavor to come to a decision at an early dote.
